The Honda Accord includes a rear sway bar to help control the rear axle during turns. A stock Accord rear sway bar lacks the strength and rigidity to add any performance to the sub frame, but an upgraded version can easily remove seconds from lap times at your local road course. Decrease Accord body roll with a new rear sway bar for a better drive and improved cornering around town and at the track.

Honda Accord Rear Sway Bars Installation Instructions

1. Spray WD-40 onto the existing rear sway bar bushings and bolts that connect the ends to the Accord rear suspension. This can even be done a day or two before the actual replacement for an even easier time removing old, rusted suspension fasteners. This task is recommended as the first thing to do even before lifting the vehicle. While the car is being lifted and the tools organized, the fluid will have a chance to get into the threads of the fasteners for easy extraction.
2. Lift the rear of the car off the floor far enough to place two jackstands under the frame in front of the rear tires. Lower the weight of the car onto the jackstands and remove the floor jack from its lifting position. Spray the rear sway bar fasteners and brackets again with WD-40.
3. Insert an Allen wrench into the sway bar fastener on one end of the bar and loosen. This fastener is one of the tightest of the sway bar connectors and can challenge any strength Allen wrench. Use a small pipe to add length to the Allen wrench and more leverage when turning. Use a pry bar or long screwdriver to manipulate the bar in the bracket to remove any stresses on the bracket connector and it should come out easy.
4. Ratchet the bushing bolts using a metric socket and the pry bar. Remove the old, worn bushings and clean the bushing brackets and sway far tabs using WD-40 and a rag. The brackets and tabs should be cleaned before installing a new sway bar so the tension is centered correctly. Use the pry bar to help align the bushings with the car’s brackets and insert the new bushings and bolts correctly. Slide the new bushings into place and tighten.
5. Insert the sway bar into the factory tabs and tighten with an Allen wrench tightly. Use the same bar to tighten these fasteners as used to remove them. Factory tabs and brackets need to be in good shape for the new sway bar and bushings to work as intended. Remove the jackstands and lower the car to the floor for testing. Once completed, the results can be felt immediately, and enjoyed for the life of the car.
